We can’t knock orange slices, but we have to call out the bright and beautiful fruit — it’s been hogging the spotlight at kids’ soccer, baseball, volleyball, any-ball games for years. Yes, it’s about 87% water and plenty hydrating, but we think there’s a few high energy mini-sandwiches that would fit into the snack time rotation quite nicely. We came up with four flavour combos that hit the target on whole grains, protein, healthy carbohydrates, and water content.

Layer the ingredients on our Sprouted Power Organic Soft Wheat or Little Big Bread, slice into four small triangles, and serve.

Hummus and Pepper

This protein-packed and vitamin-rich sandwich bite has a fun colour kids will love. The peppers add a sweet and satisfying crunch while the smooth hummus tastes just like their favourite veggies and dip.

Cream Cheese and Cucumber

This simple sandwich will win over picky eaters. Cucumbers are about 96% water and add a fun crunch, plus vegan cashew cream cheese adds immune-boosting vitamins and minerals.

Almond Butter and Dates

With a generous amount of magnesium, almond butter is a great heart-healthy spread that will please peanut-free kiddos. Dates add a healthy dose of natural sugar for lots of second-half energy.

Hazelnut Butter and Banana

It’s always a treat for kids to have some chocolate hazelnut butter, and bonus for parents: it’s a great blood-sugar regulator. Add some banana for potassium and good digestion.
