How do you keep sprouted whole grain bread fresh? Whether you’re on your first or 50th loaf of Silver Hills Sprouted Bakery bread, what is the best way to store it so it is fresh and tasty until the last slice? How and where should you store your favourite bread once you get it home? The answer depends on how fast you’ll use it! Put it right into the freezer for later or onto the counter for when you make sandwiches for lunch tomorrow—either way, we’ve got some tips for how to store it and keep your family’s favourites sprouted bread fresh!

1. How long is sprouted whole grain bread good for?

You can leave your loaf out on the counter until the best-before date found on the bag or for up to nine days from thaw if you’re taking it out of the freezer. Better yet? Store it in a breadbox or in your pantry out of direct light. (Just don’t store it on top of your fridge! The extra warmth up there can make it spoil faster).

2. What’s the best way to keep sprouted whole grain bread from drying out between uses?

Whether you keep it on the counter or in the freezer, remember to properly close the bag with a bread clip after you’ve grabbed your slices for breakfast, lunch or dinner to keep it from drying out! And while it’s common to keep bread in the fridge to extend its shelf life, don’t! Storing bread in the fridge actually dries the bread out!

3. How to freeze sprouted whole grain bread (and how to defrost it for quick use!)

Not going to finish the loaf in about nine days? Freeze our bread to preserve its freshness for up to six months. Just be sure that bag is tightly closed and free of any excess air. When you’re ready to enjoy a slice, pop it into your toaster and toast from frozen! Or take out what you need and let thaw at room temperature (or defrost for 10 seconds in the microwave) for perfectly soft slices to make your morning avocado toast or a lunchtime veggie sandwich. If pieces are not separating easily, leave the loaf to thaw on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes, take out what you need, and return the rest to the freezer.
