Swap your traditional hot dogs for a veggie dog (for some sneaky greens) and set out a selection of the best plant-based toppings. That way, everyone can create their ideal dog! And you’ll feel at peace knowing that your friends and family get to enjoy all the flavour and nutrition that comes with plant-based eating.

A lot of kids stick to the traditional ketchup or mustard and that’s about it. However, there are ways to encourage kids (and veggie-averse adults) to choose healthy toppings for their plant-based hot dog. Just add one fun, fresh new thing for kids to get excited about—like this wild and wacky watermelon relish! Loaded with flavour, it’s sweet with a little bit of heat, and the perfect summertime topping for your plant-based hot dogs. Or for the more adventurous eaters in your home, try adding a sprinkle of sprouts. Invite your kids to give their hot dog a dash of healthy greenery. Let them dress their dogs to their liking and make it fun! Even if as few as four teeny, tiny sprouts make it onto their otherwise nearly naked dog, it’s still a win. You can work up to more the next time you have a hot dog day at your house.

Get your kids thinking with more than just their stomach and grow your own sprouts at home. This fun STEM activity can be done easily at home—and sprouts make for a unique and nutritious topping to any hot dog! Connecting with food by nurturing it and watching it grow has inspired many kids to overcome their fear of all things green. Better Hot Dogs Deserve Better Buns

Why should you choose a sprouted bun over a traditional one? Simply because sprouted whole grains are easier to digest. And since sprouted grains are packed with prebiotic fibre1, our sprouted hot dog buns (and breads) are a fantastic way to help maintain a healthy gut microbiome.
